Tornado Touchdowns from 2013-2022

This map displays every location where a recorded tornado has touched down from 2013-2022. Initially, the only tornado touchdowns shown on the map are from 2021 and 2022. Click the icon in the top left of the map to open the legend. Once the legend is open, scroll to the bottom of the legend and click on any US state. You may have to click on the US state in the legend twice. This will zoom in the map on your location of interest. Once you pick a location you desire or you zoom out to see the full map again, click the unmarked boxes next to the other years to add more tornado touchdowns until you select "2013 Tornadoes". As you mark the additional years of tornadoes, watch how the map evolves and see the results of how many tornadoes there were in the last nine years. As you see the map evolve, you can click on any tornado marker to see the year, time (UTC), US state, EF ranking, amount of injuries and the UTM coordinates of the tornado. You might be surprised how many tornadoes occur in the US each year. This infographic gives the viewer a better understanding of how common tornadoes are around the United States.

Number of Tornadoes vs Tornado Deaths

This infographic provides information about tornadoes and tornado related deaths from the year 2013 through 2022. The line graph displays the number of tornadoes per year. The line graph element helps show how the amount of tornadoes fluctuates per year while also showing how this fluctuation has a trend. The bar graph shows the amount of tornado related deaths. The y-axis has two different scales for each graph type because there is a massive difference in tornadoes to tornado deaths. Injuries from tornadoes are much higher and would match the tornado trend better, but deaths are easier to account for and usually evokes more emotion from a viewer.

How the Enhanced Fujita Scale Ranks Tornadoes

Enhanced Fujita Scale Infographic.jpg

This infographic gives a visual representation and explains how a tornado is ranked with the Enhanced Fujita Scale. The scale uses 2 factors to rank tornadoes: wind milage per hour and a damage assessment. The scale ranges from EF0 - EF5. The Infographic also provides photos of what an EF0 - EF4 tornado may look like. EF4 and EF5 tornadoes look very similar, so for the ranking of EF5 there is a photo to help better explain what the damage looked like after that type of tornado.

The Last Five EF5 Tornado Locations

This map shows the last five EF5 Tornado locations. Each tornado pin on the map includes a photo and additional information about the tornado. I made this map to practice my skills using Google My Maps.
